Ten of the Best
It’s a hard task to pick just ten reasons for visiting Exmoor. But this choice at least gives you a flavour of the area. As you’ll see when you look through this guide, they’re just the start. There are many, many more…

Soak up the scenery. From heather-covered moorland and clear-flowing rivers to a remarkable coastline, where plunging cliffs and oak woods meet the sea, Exmoor offers uninterrupted natural beauty on a grand scale.
Get active. Take your pick from a huge range of things to do – everything from watersports to wildlife safaris, cycling to country sports.
Bring your binoculars. There’s so much wildlife to watch, including red deer, wild goats, buzzards and nesting seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes – and the unique Exmoor pony.
Tuck into a taste of Exmoor – it’s a very
tempting menu, featuring irresistible cream teas, delicious seafood and game, farm-fresh produce and farmhouse cider.
Make it easy on yourself. You don’t have to travel thousands of miles to make the great escape. Exmoor’s on your doorstep, with excellent links from London, the Midlands and other parts of Britain. We’re less than an hour from the motorway or train stations.

Walk to Dunkery Beacon, at 1,704ft (519m)
Exmoor’s highest point. You’ll be surrounded
by so much exhilarating space and soar away
scenery that you’ll feel on top of the world.
Dip into a deep pool of heritage – Exmoor’s
treasures include the ancient Tarr Steps,
packhorse bridges, historic houses, Dunster
Castle and the haunting Doone Country.
Explore a stretch of the coast path – the 630
mile South West Coast Path starts at Minehead
and immediately enters its most spectacular
stretch as its scales Exmoor’s towering sea-cliffs, skirts beautiful bays and takes you to the sandy coves with rock pools and of course the very special Valley of the Rocks.
Go riding on the moors. With hundreds of miles of bridleways to chose from, Exmoor and horse riding were made for each other.
Take the children to some of our many fun-packed family attractions – zoos, amusement parks, steam train rides, or to the beaches and harbours.
